LIVRE TRILIGUE (français, mi'kmaq et anglais)

Il y a longtemps, le grand Glooscap créa le peuple mi’kmaq dans le territoire actuel des provinces de l’Atlantique. Puis le Maître interrogea les animaux de la région, qui étaient alors gigantesques, afin de connaître leur intention envers les humains. Selon leur réponse, il réduisit la force des uns, diminua la taille des autres, en chassa d’autres au loin. Voulant échapper à ses questions, le castor construisit un énorme barrage pour se cacher, mais Glooscap détruisit le barrage et transforma ainsi le paysage du Nouveau-Brunswick.

Une légende venue des temps anciens, qui explique comment Glooscap donna naissance au peuple mi’kmaq et assura l’harmonie sur la terre.

A long time ago, the great Glooscap created the Mi’kmaq people in the territory now known as the Atlantic provinces. Then he asked the animals of the region, who were enormous back then, what their intentions were towards humans. Depending on their answer, he weakened some, reduced the size of others, and sent still others far away. Wanting to escape his questions, the beaver built a huge dam in which to hide, but Glooscap destroyed it and transformed it into the New Brunswick landscape.

A legend from ancient times that explains how Glooscap gave birth to the Mi’kmaq people and ensured harmony on earth.

Serena M. Sock est enseignante et vit à Elsipogtog (Big Cove), au Nouveau-Brunswick. Outre son métier, qu'elle adore, elle se passionne pour la langue mi'kmaq, qu'elle apprend à lire et à écrire depuis longtemps. La traduction de cette histoire lui donne l'occasion de partager sa passion avec les jeunes lecteurs.

Serena M. Sock is a teacher living in Elsipogtog (Big Cove), New Brunswick. Besides her career, which she loves, she is passionate about the Mi’kmaq language, which she has been learning to read and write for a long time. Translating this story has given her the opportunity to share her passion with young readers.

Allison Mitcham

Allison Mitcham a résidé pendant plusieurs années au Nouveau-Brunswick. Elle a été professeure de littérature anglaise et canadienne comparée. Elle est l'auteure de plusieurs articles, 22 livres (fiction, poésie et non-fiction) et co-auteure de 4 livres. Son oeuvre littéraire a été recensée dans six anthologies. En 1994, son livre TAKU a reçu la médaille du Lieutenant-gouverneur de la Colombie-Britannique et le Prix de la Fédération historique de la la C.-B.

Allison Mitcham has resided in New Brunswick for several years. She has been a professor of English and comparative Canadian literature and is the author of many articles, twenty-two books (fiction, poetry, and non-fiction) and the co-author of four books. Her literary work has appeared in six anthologies. In 1994, her book TAKU received the Lieutenant-Governor's Award and the Prix de la fédération historique, both from British-Columbia.

Réjean Roy

Réjean Roy vit à Petit-Rocher, au Nouveau-Brunswick. Après avoir fait ses débuts chez Bouton d’or Acadie, Réjean Roy a écrit et illustré plus d’une quarantaine de livres. Artiste de l’année 2021 en littérature pour l’abécédaire B pour Bayou (Prix Éloize), son album Le géant du Nord canadien a été finaliste en 2022 au prix Lillian Shepherd Memorial pour excellence en illustration. Ses peintures sont vendues partout en Amérique du Nord et font la joie des collectionneurs.

Réjean Roy lives in Petit-Rocher, New Brunswick. After making his debut with Bouton d’or Acadie, Réjean Roy went on to write and illustrate over forty books. He was named Artist of the Year in Literature in 2021 for his alphabet primer B pour Bayou ( Éloize Award), and his picture book Le géant du Nord canadien was a finalist in 2022 for the Lillian Shepherd Memorial Award for Excellence in Illustration.
